What Is AI Help Bot?

AI Help Bot is a chat widget that answers visitor questions automatically, using your knowledge-based articles and uploaded files as its source material. It lives under Settings > AI Settings, where you enable it, train it on your content, define its personality and rules, and set its appearance before publishing it to your site.

Why Use It?

A trained AI Help Bot cuts down repetitive support work and keeps answers consistent across every visitor conversation.

  • Support tickets pile up outside business hours. AI Help Bot answers common questions instantly, without visitors waiting for an agent to come online.
  • New support agents don't know every article by heart. The bot pulls answers straight from your trained knowledge base, so responses stay accurate.
  • Your chatbot needs to sound like your brand, not a generic script. The Persona, Tone, and Guardrails settings let you match its voice and limits without writing custom code.

Example Use Cases

  • A support agent uploads the return-policy PDF as a knowledge source so the bot can answer refund questions on its own.
  • A knowledge base manager adds a guardrail that blocks the bot from sharing another customer's order details.
  • A marketing manager sets the chatbot's color, icon, and greeting message to match the company's brand before embedding it on the help site.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Navigate to AI Settings in the Settings section.

Step 2: Open AI Configuration, go to the Search & Assist tab, and enable In-App Help Bot.

Step 3: Return to AI Settings and select the AI Help Bot card.

Step 4: Train your bot using File Upload, Text, FAQ, or Website sources.

Step 5: Upload files (.doc, .docx, .md, .pdf, or .txt up to 20MB), add text content, FAQs, or configure website training.

Step 6: Specify link crawl roots, sitemaps, or individual pages for the AI to index.

Step 7: In the Behavior tab, configure your chatbot's Persona using the Basic card or select a starter template.

Step 8: Set Tone and Answer Length, then save.

Step 9: Manage Instructions by toggling predefined rules or Add custom instructions. Instructions are predefined rules that guide how your AI Help Bot behaves and responds.

Step 10: Configure Guardrails by toggling predefined options or creating custom rules with a title and description. Guardrails are safety boundaries that prevent your AI Help Bot from answering certain types of questions or sharing sensitive information.

Step 11: Open the Theme tab and set the ChatBot Name, Color, and Style.

Step 12: Select an Icon, configure Chatbot Position, and enable Greeting Message.

Step 13: Save your configuration, copy the Embed Code, and integrate it into your website.

Pro Tips & Interactive Settings

Tip: Each tab — Basics, Instructions, Guardrails, and Theme — has its own Save button, so changes on one tab aren't stored until you save that tab specifically.
Permissions: Uploaded knowledge files count against a 40MB AI storage limit shown on the Knowledge tab. Delete unused files before uploading new ones if you're close to the cap, and remember that turning off In-App Help Bot on the AI Configuration screen removes the chat widget from your site even if Behavior and Theme are fully configured.
