How to Set Up the Interactive Demo in ProProfs Knowledge Base?

The Interactive Demo turns your Step-by-Step Guide into an autoplaying walkthrough that guides readers through every step without them having to click forward. The walkthrough settings — including timing, looping, and autoplay — are configured in the guide editor.

What Is the Interactive Demo?

The Interactive Demo is a playback mode built into every Step-by-Step Guide. When enabled, it auto-advances through your steps — showing each screenshot with its elements (Click markers, Highlights, Annotations, and more) for a set duration before moving on. You turn it on with a single toggle at the top of the guide editor.

Why Use It?

A step list works for readers who go at their own pace. The Interactive Demo is better when the experience needs to run itself:

  • Embedding on a landing page or help widget: An auto-playing demo keeps visitors engaged without requiring any clicks.
  • Running a live product demo or onboarding session: Let the guide play while you talk through it.
  • Non-technical or first-time users: Remove the effort of navigating — the demo runs on its own.

Example Use Cases

  • Customer success team: Embeds an Interactive Demo on a help page so new users watch the onboarding flow automatically on arrival.
  • Sales engineer: Sets the demo to loop during a product booth so it runs continuously without manual input.
  • Product team: Sets step duration to 5 seconds so reviewers have enough time to read each annotation before advancing.

How to Set Up the Interactive Demo

Step 1: Open your Step-by-Step Guide in the ProProfs Knowledge Base editor.

Step 2: At the top of the guide, locate the Enable Interactive Demo toggle.

Step 3: Click the gear icon (⚙) next to the toggle to open Walkthrough Settings.

Configure Walkthrough Settings

Step Duration: Controls how long each step displays before auto-advancing.

  • Default is 3 seconds.
  • Increase to 5–7 seconds for steps with longer annotations or detailed descriptions.

Loop at End: When on, the walkthrough restarts automatically after the last step.

  • Turn on for continuous demos on landing pages or product tours.
  • Leave off if the guide ends with a specific action you want readers to take.

Autoplay: When on, steps advance without the reader clicking.

  • Turn on for a fully hands-free experience.
  • Leave off to let readers advance manually at their own pace.

How to Manage Individual Steps

Click the three-dot menu (⋯) on any step to access step-level options:

  • Copy Step: Duplicates the step within the same guide.
  • Skip in Walkthrough: Excludes the step from Interactive Demo playback — it stays visible in the step list.

  • Hide from Step List: Hides the step from the reader-facing list — it still plays in the walkthrough.
  • Delete Step: Permanently removes the step from the guide.

Tip: Use Skip in Walkthrough for transition or loading steps that would disrupt the flow of the demo but are still useful as reference steps.

Preview and Publish

Step 9: Click Preview to see how the guide and Interactive Demo look to readers before publishing.

Step 10: Click Publish when the guide is ready to go live.

Your Interactive Demo settings are saved to the guide and stay active every time a reader opens it. If the walkthrough isn't playing as expected in preview, check that Autoplay is on and no steps are accidentally set to Skip in Walkthrough. Still stuck?
